10 Must-See Artists at Art MONACO 2014 Whether you want to see the best of the fair in a single blog, IRREVERSIBLE offer our round-up of the most exciting artists and projects from this year exhibition. Monaco, Monte Carlo the world’s second smallest country, is best known for its royal opulence and the twentieth century reign of Prince Rainier and his son Prince Albert II. But for four days annually, the constitutional monarchy becomes the site of an international event called Art Monaco. The world’s richest people flock to the country to take in the colorful sights and sounds of a vibrant event in a spectacular locale. Embedded in the French Riviera between Nice and Menton and 15 minutes from the Italian border, the principality of Monaco has built its reputation and appeal on its luxurious, royal lifestyle and stylish surroundings. Even though the country is roughly the same size as New York’s Central Park and can be traversed entirely in under an hour, it has become a major financial and artistic mecca.

Zhuang Hong Yi can best be described as a Chinese, contemporary artist who has impressed audiences in different countries by his unique style in his many pieces of modern art. His works represent beauty, sophistication and a high level of perfection with a clear presence of Chinese influence represented in his use of colors, themes, shapes and materials that touch the heart.
The fact that one can recognize features from his Chinese background which, at the same time, are gracefully combined with strong Western allure is undoubtedly the result of his upbringing and education in China and the international ‘European’ experience and inspiration he has gained since 1990, when he moved to the Netherlands; where he eventually settled with his wife Luluo, also an artist. Even after many years of residence in Europe, Zhuang still holds his studio in Beijing, China, where he returns a couple of times a year to work, collect new materials and to get inspiration.
Since moving to Western Europe in the early nineties Zhuang Hong Yi ‘s style has continuously developed. His work exists in many different forms, shapes, but also in a variety of materials and sizes. Zhuang Hong Yi has made paintings with ink, mixed traditional Chinese materials like acrylic and oil paint and rice paper. Zhuang’s paintings are very often characterized by a daring and surprising mix of bright colors. He also creates sculptures and art objects in wood, porcelain and metals, amongst others. But all of his work is inviting and often very surprising; even for those who know his art well.

Alejandro Mendoza provides a visual vocabulary that signals the recognition that the transactions of peoples brought together result in profound disruptions and adjustments that require an active process of forging new identities. Mutan Series then prompts to ask: What does the artworks, and expressive forms generally, tell us about this process that exceeds what analytical and historical accounts by themselves can reveal? Are there more general lessons to be learn here about the problematic of subjectivity, particularly regarding the role of affect? And are these the forms through which identities and ways of life can be re-figured? For Mendoza, it is through the activities of recalculating/calibrating that locations are transformed into place of meaning. The works presented in Art Monaco 2014 provide cues for finding adequate formulas.

Articblue Gallery is founded by the artist and independent curator Rose Marie Bellemur and collector Gustavo Zelaschi. With over 23 years experience in art, founded in Ibiza, Balearic Islands, the third Gallery of Art in February 2012. Articblue Gallery goal is to present and outline the current trends in the contemporary art in Ibiza and Europe. The Gallery philosophy is to offer avant-garde art of his contemporaries, since only the most successful contemporary art can comment on the period in the establishment and spectators are able to understandand appreciate the art of his own generation with the introduction and orientation. Articblue Gallery actively research and participates in international art fairs, its program is strongly based in the search for new talents to support generation of young artists.
Evi Savvaidi was born in Rhodes in 1970. Evi studied Sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), with Prof. Theodoros Papagiannis and Prof. Nikos Tranos. She studied the art of mosaic with Prof. Dafni Aggelidou and attended a workshop at the Pilchuck Glass School of Seattle Washington USA. Evi currently lives in Rhodes, Greece.

He’s the official artist for His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. Brazilian artist Marcos Marin first got into the world of arts through piano: he brings his artistic sensibilities from music into his optical artworks which rely on a trompe d’oeil—trick of the eye—effect, using organic lines and sheer geometric shapes to create seemingly 3D portayals of iconic people and places.
Marcos Marin’s serigraphies, paintings and sculptures not only combine three-dimensional light, color and movement, but also bring about an interpersonal connection with the viewer. The portraits of contemporary celebrities come to life as soon as they are approached, and outdoor sculptures play with the surrounding setting to enhance environmental characteristics. Marin places the viewer in a curious situation, where the viewer triangulates with the art piece in order to observe a variety of physical perspectives. Marin’s artwork also leverages the laws of human perspective through color interaction. Portraying a balance between warm and cold colors, Marin’s masterpieces create an unprecedented balance that brings the artwork to life, as the effects create spatial and three dimensional appearances, and subsequent movements. Along with breakthrough and eye-catching optical illusion methodology, Marin brings about Vasarely’s ‘fourth dimension,’ as his technical wisdom of combining layering, colors and emotion highlights responsive and transcendental effects that resurrect iconic figures.
